"Flamenco - Poetry & Passion" (JVF, Husets Forlag 1994) is an attempt to make el cante - the flamencosong - more accesible for the danish - or danishreading - flamencoaficionado. The motivation behind this work is both a fascination of this expression, and suggestive experiences with el cante and theese lyrics, which I would like to share with other flamenco-lovers. The book contains a short introduction to flamenco generally, and specially to the flamenco-poetry and to the thematic and expressive ressources, that is used in this tradition. The book contains a selection into the 35 actual flamencostyles, both in the original version and in a version in danish, and organized in such a way that the most often heard styles are represented by most poems, in relation to this, I've tryed hard to select some of the most popular poems, well knowing that they are beautyful to read, but they are even more beautyful to hear interpretated by a flamencosinger in a peña, in a concert, a jam or on an outdoor festival in some tiny andalusian village in a warm summernight... and the great pleasure that it is to recognize a poem in an intense live-atmosphere, and together whith the olés from the entusiastic and attended audience, to follow the interpretation of the singer creating this special atmosphere where the words suddenly gives up beeing words and converts themselves into living experiences of broken love, lonelyness, passion, hate and desire ... Buena suerte!
