”AL NORTE DEL FLAMENCO”
In the nordic countries, and specially in Denmark, an flamencoguitar edition is nearly as seldom as the Halley-comet. Newertheless the danish guitarist
Jens Viggo Fjord has just edited the CD, ”Al Norte del Flamenco”, which contains eight of his tunes accompaned by spanish and danish musicians.
The recordings has been made in Denamark with his usual musicians-mates, and in Seville, where Jens Viggo Fjord has been living since 2006, and the collaboration with outstanding percussionplayers as Joselito Fernández, and the singers Inma Rivero, Olayo Jiménez y Enrique de Morón, undoubltly has given some of that andalusian sound and swing, that hardly couldn’t be found in the streets of Copenhagen.
In his compositions this guitarrist presents a personal proposal which combines the teaching received from his maestros Manolo Sanlúcar, Paco Peña and Miguel Angel Cortés, and the musical bagage that he has been assimilating along his career, specially the brasilian music, el jazz y nordic sounds, that, together with his composing work, forms the basic of his music.
In this line the CD presents bulería and rumba-tunes like ”Plaza Azahar”, “Azúcar”, “Night in Utrera” and ”La Palmera”, this last one nominated for the ”Track of the year” by the danish worldmusic association, World Music Denmark, as well as more innermost tunes like the farruca ”Rincón de Desamor” that together with the viola of Jasio Velasques and the very expressive singing by the Sevilla-cantaora, Inma Rivero, summon a very emotional moments. A touch of jazz is given by the trompetist Bjorn Ringkobing in ”Mi Soleá”, while the guajira ”Corales”, introduced by the singer Enrique de Morón interluding a caribian atmosphere. The album finalizes with an elegiac taranta, ”Ausencia”.
